The artist duo Herakut , will be a highlight of the Saturday@Phillips auction in London on March 14th. The collaboration of Hera and Akut was formed in 2004, and they have been gaining recognition ever since with their unique way of creating work together.

The difference in the pair’s style and approach counterbalances one another in a way that is unexpected yet completely logical. Akut, is a self-taught graffiti artist, paints using aerosol in a photorealist style. Before painting the work he sets up a concept for the image using a combination of a computer images and various photo materials. Hera, on the other hand, is formally trained as an artist, and takes a much less confined approach than Akut. Because of her stricter educational background within art, she requires much more freedom while working. In the end her work is composed of more abstracted forms, a quality that shows her artistic hand. Working in shifts, with one artist adding to the other an ongoing dialog is formed with two different perspectives on one piece. Their work is at the forefront of a painterly trend within Urban Art as it becomes increasingly focused on form and message.

For the upcoming Saturday@Phillips, London sale in March, Herakut have created a new work entitled You Sure? estimated at £3,000 – 4,000. The proceeds of this work will benefit the charity, War Child . Working to better the lives of children who have been subjected to ongoing war and conflict, War Child’s goal is to establish on-the-ground programs and projects with lasting affects for both children and their community. Protecting children and enriching their future by reintegrating child soldiers with their families, rebuilding schools destroyed during war, getting children off the streets who were made homeless by war, and empowering the local community to make a difference. War Child is currently active in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
