Ethan Greenbaum's work reflects the urbanity that surrounds him in Brooklyn, NY. The elements the artist uses within this urban landscape include graphic signs, commercial architecture, and digital displays. Greenbaum states, “I am particularly drawn to sites that are compromised or in transition, such as a multi-use storefront, a halfway gentrified neighborhood or a wall that’s been repainted one too many times.”

Greenbaum goes about his work by collecting photography and sketches of several scenes that interest him. These are the references he uses constantly throughout his work. His use of commercial materials such as Formica, Sintra plastic, and acrylic paint suggest the commercialism within his urban landscape. Greenbaum remarks, “I create pieces that reference the quotidian, yet deny legibility or function. The resulting work is a compressed archive of observation, memory and desire.
